La Cambre

DP and Università degli Studi di Parma

Today DigitalPlatforms SpA held a seminar at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma, within the “Internet of Things” course provided in the Communications Engineering specialist degree.

Eng. Riccardo Pighi, Ph.D., R&D director of the Energy Automation area of Selta BU of DigitalPlatforms SpA, presented some of the main aspects that characterize modern Smart Grids and the main telecommunications technologies that enable remote control and monitoring.
He also presented the result of the collaboration between DP and the Parma headquarters of CNIT – National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications: together a multifunction gateway was developed, capable of acquiring signals from LoRa wireless or wired sensors and forwarding them to the cloud or towards a LoRa WAN gateway of an higher hierarchical level, in order to be able to create both star and multilevel network solutions for monitoring critical infrastructures such as power lines, oil & gas pipelines and water distribution networks.
In support of the multifunction gateway, the special telecommunication solution developed by SELTA – BU of DigitalPlatforms SpA for the transport of data, voice, IP traffic and teleprotection on HV / AAT power lines was also presented: some details of the numerical processing algorithms of the signal, channel coding, adaptive equalization and echo cancellation which have been developed within different processing architectures such as DSP and FPGA.
